Destiny is getting ever closer.  Have you looked at http://www.destiny.kickboxing.co.za yet?

Waivers

Friday was the due date for the waivers and associated payments to be made.  We have only received 60% of the waivers.  PLEASE ensure that you bring your waivers and payments to class on Monday/Tuesday.   If you have lost it, you can download it from http://www.destiny.kickboxing.co.za/registration.html

It may appear that there is still lots of time (2 weeks), but consider the following:

  • There are approx 1200 competitors.  Some competitors will compete in up to 7 events.  But if we take an average of 2 events per competitor, that is 2400 fighters cards that need to be written, checked, divided per instructor and double checked.
  • Wrist bands for all competitors and spectators must be counted, divided per instructor and double checked.
  • Tshirts orders must be counted, ordered, MANUFACTURED (Printed), checked, divided per instructor and double checked.

Therefore, please assist your instructors by bringing the waivers by no later than your first class next week.

Breaking and TShirts

READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY

The dead lines for Breaking materials and Thirts are this Monday and Tuesday mornings respectively.  Therefore if you have not already ordered your breaking material and Tshirt, you HAVE TO email your TShirt size, and/or the number of tiles you require, to the instructor listed below, before the end of Saturday.

The breaking tiles are R5 each.  By sending an email to the instructor you are committing to paying for it on Monday/Tuesday, together with your waiver form.  If you fail to order your TShirt, you will NOT get one.  If you fail to order your tiles, you will NOT be able to enter the Breaking.

  • Bothasig, Tableview, Goodwood: send order to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
  • Durbanville, Pinelands, Rondebosch: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
  • Kuilsriver, Kraaifontein, Bellville, Brackenfell: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

(please state in the email your name (could be different to email address), dojo, Tshirt size and number of tiles)

Information regarding announcements at Destiny

On your division list we emailed before, you will see division numbers attached to each description. Divisions needed to be called to the ring will be called by that number only and not the full division description. In other words for division #52 we will call “division 52 to ring 7 now please” and not “boys 10 & 11 years old NOVICE, white & yellow belt to ring number 7 now please”.  Copies of the division lists will up on display at the venue.

We have over 400 divisions to get through in two days, and we must begin to fall in line with International standards.

Please understand clearly, it is the individual’s responsibility to ensure he/she is at the correct ring at the time of commencing the division. It is not the tournament promoters responsibility to ensure each & every competitor is where he/she needs to be at all times. Please, the last thing we want is for a student to miss their division. Whether they come from Germany or Cape Town is irrelevant. We don’t want anyone missing their divisions.

Rules

The rules are available on the website at http://www.destiny.kickboxing.co.za/rules.html  Please take a look so that you can ask any question in class next week.

To All Students

The Soccer World Cup is at an end and School Holidays are almost over and as you make your way home, we encourage all of you to please attend class as much as possible. A lot of information will be given in class regarding Destiny and training tips and preparation will be done to help you do your best, but we would like all to benefit from this. Destiny is only 4 weeks away and we would like to have everyone well prepared and confident!

Just a reminder about the Destiny Waiver forms. This form needs to be completed and returned to your instructor as soon as possible with the relevant amount due. We have mailed you a copy of the waiver  and the instructors also carry copies of these forms with them if you did not receive it. You can also order the Once-Off Collectors Destiny 2010 T-shirt on the Waiver. Please ensure that you submit your waiver early enough to prevent disappointment!

All those that are interested in doing the NMA Sport Full Contact and the K1 Full Contact Fighting, need to be at the Durbanville Dojo on Tuesday 13 July 2010. We will explain the rules of these divisions and what will be expected of you to compete.

If you have any queries or uncertainties pertaining to Destiny, please feel free to contact your instructor and they will be most happy to assist you!

Yours in Martial Arts

The phone calls started coming in when the morning rain started, all with one common concern: was the beach day still on? These were clearly the newcomers, because the more experienced students all knew that:
  1. The beach day is a rain-or-shine affair, and
  2. The inclement weather would eventually clear up anyway.

Full Contact Training Begins

Print
PDF

Their reasons for being there were varied. Some said they wanted an idea of the type of training required for full contact fighting. Others simply wanted to supplement their training and improve their fitness. Whatever the motivations, all 43 who attended this session, held at the Brackenfell dojo, found it a worthwhile, and tiring, experience.

The training started with a brisk 2km run, punctuated by a series of sprints. This put an early rest to any questions about how hard the workout would be.No sooner had the students returned to the dojo when they were told to produce their skipping ropes for a series of skipping sessions lasting twenty minutes in total.

So much then for the warm-up; the real work then began. What followed was a series of drills designed to build core strength, leg strength and stamina. Then came the padwork, with special emphasis on hitting the pads at maximum power. Here the students were made to realize just how tiring it is to strike at full power.

The session ended on the same high note on which it started, with the promise from Shihan Paul of harder, more taxing sessions in the future. Credit is due to the students, firstly for their willingness to participate, and also for maintaining high levels of spirit throughout the training. Indeed, the next full contact training day has now become a most highly anticipated event.
