BFSA Breaking

Over the years breaking has developed tremendously and as breaking commissioner in South Africa it gives me great pleasure to see especially our youngsters coming through the ranks and developing into skilled breakers.

There are however a couple of rules that we need to reiterate in order to remain a credible Breaking Federation in line with international breaking organisations.

Last year we introduced new breaking boards for the age group 13 and 14. Although still plastic and re-useable, they are tougher to break, but more importantly they are flat and bigger.
This is to ease the transition from the plastic tiles to the roof tiles from age 15 and up.

The following rules need to be understood clearly.

  1. No jumping – When a competitor breaks one foot must remain on the ground at all times. The competitor may take one step during the breaking routine, but no running in will be allowed.
  2. There is no relation between the amounts of tiles a competitor pre order and the amount being stacked for the break. It is always advisable to order 2 or 3 tiles more. The amount of breaks will be determined by the amount of breaking stations. For Destiny there will be 8. This 8 people will stack and break at a time. Once those stacks are done, you may not add or remove tiles.
  3. The highest ranked breaker will break last. The order will be determined by Destiny 2014 1st to 3rd. Then Classic 1st place winner. The rest of the breaking order will be completely random and to the discretion of the chief breaking official, Sempai Gavin Stopforth.
  4. Leaning or pushing through the stack, mostly with the red plastic tiles, will not be allowed. The break must be caused by a strike not a push. The indications from a judging perspective will be when the competitor drops past his hips.

Please find attached more detailed information regarding breaking. Please do not hesitate to contact us for further assistance in this regard.

For any information or clarity you can contact Sensei Karel – senseikarel@kickboxing.co.za

The categories are as follows:

14 – 16 years old

SPORT FULL CONTACT- JUNIOR  (14-16Y) FULL CONTACT TO THE BODY, LIGHT CONTACT ONLY TO THE FACE  NO LOW KICKS OR KNEES ALLOWED!

As is clear by the heading, it is only full contact to the body. All contact to the face must be at semi or light contact level only (NMA/ISKA Standards). Any full contact to the face will be met with immediate disqualification!  School YOUR students before the tournament at the Dojo in this regard because we will NOT give any warnings! A warning is futile if the opponent already has a busted nose and has himself followed the rules so why should the transgressor receive any benefit from it? Remember it clearly! NO WARNINGS FOR ANY EXCESSIVE CONTACT TO THE FACE WITH ANY TECHNIQUE WHATSOEVER!

17 & 18 years old

SPORT FULL CONTACT – JUNIOR (17 & 18y ONLY)  – FULL TO BODY, LIGHT TO FACE LOW KICK & KNEES TO BODY ONLY

It is still governed with ONLY LIGHT CONTACT TO THE FACE but now also includes Low kick to the legs (outside only) and knees to the body only. (NO KNEES to the face) ). Again as in previous age group, we move forward in letting the juniors gain more experience before entering the SENIOR divisions once they turn 19 years old. This time with the inclusion of Low kicks and Knees to the body.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: even though the age group is 17 & 18 years old, 17 year old students must still be entered in on the JUNIOR Registration document and NOT on the SENIOR registration document. If they are 18 then they enter on the SENIOR registration sheet not the Junior sheet.

19 & OLDER

LOW KICK FULL CONTACT SENIOR  (19y +)  FULL CONTACT TO THE BODY AND FACE WITH LOW KICKS TO INSIDE / OUTSIDE OF LEGS & KNEES TO BODY ONLY

This is full contact in all its Glory! Come prepared for a battle and ensure you know what you are getting yourself in to. Can only be entered via the SENIOR Registration sheet.

NMA/ISKA DOMINANCE OR EFFECTIVE AGGRESSION RULE:

Effective defence is no longer a criterion for scoring points in Full contact divisions. Rather it now will only help you not to lose. Judges in NMA/ISKA will not score on how well you can defend but how well you can attack. This does not mean you do not need to defend, this is a given, a requirement to compete at full contact level in the eyes of NMA/ISKA. If its lacking or nonexistent, your fight will be stopped and you will lose!

Points are scored when a fighter executes successful attacking techniques while on his feet. Significant strikes or power punches are valued higher than the total amount of strikes a fighter lands throughout the round. Therefore pitter patter punches don’t score as highly as when someone lands a solid body blow that sends his opponents to the ground or have to react due to pain. Cut’s, swelling and bruises (full contact)   also play into this factor. We have to take these values and implement them into the Full Contact format.

A new definition has been given to “Effective Aggression” as a way to reward fighters who push the pressure during the rounds and prove they have what it takes to dominate through hard training and conditioning done in the Dojo. It basically interprets into fighters achieving points for moving forward while executing EFFECTIVE legal techniques. The new amended changes to the judging criteria also now allocates points for fighters based upon how well a Fighter determines the pace and position of the fight. This is known as ring control. Show it and you will gain from it.

Registration Sheets

All registration sheets are due by the 9th of October 2015.

  • All clubs must pre register by the 9th of October, No Club or style registrations will be accepted at the venue. Only extra individual entries can and will be accepted.
  • Adding new students to your Pre – registrations will only be able to be done on Saturday till 12pm. All New registrations will then be closed for the tournament.
  • Adding new divisions to already registered students can be done at the venue but only if the student was Pre registered by the 9th of October.
  • When you receive your junior and senior registration sheets you need to fill in a cell phone number and email account of each person entering from your Dojo. Registration forms with the instructors details on (email or cell phone) entered on individual entries  will not be processed. The electronic registration sheet will also not allow you to duplicate the same cell number twice so please ensure your students have entered the correct detail on the waiver. Parents information should be asked for in case of minors. This is very important as the SA Team selections take place within 1 week of Destiny and any chance of them getting the selections notification or not depends on the accuracy of the information received on the registration forms. So please, the moral of the story is check each individual waiver that there is a accurate cell phone and email information listed and please ensure you transfer that information carefully onto the registration sheet.

IMPORTANT! Because the waiver has more division selections, it was necessary to print it on two separate A4 size documents. BOTH PAGES must be returned by ALL students and handed in before you can receive your Destiny package with fighter cards.

NMA / ISKA FULL CONTACT DIVISION

NMA/ISKA SOUTH AFRICA will continue with ISKA Full Contact Kickboxing at Destiny this year.

Although we still be sending a detailed document we would like to bring the following to your attention.

Full Contact Divisions are as follows:

SPORT FULL CONTACT:

  • All grades 14 – 16 years of age. Full to body, semi to face with NO LOW KICKS
  • All grades 17 & 18 years of age. Full to body, semi to face with LOW KICKS

FULL CONTACT BODY & FACE:

  • 19 years and older. Full to body & face with LOW KICKS

PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING:

  • There will be no “open entry” divisions at any tournament. All fighters must be registered with Head Office and matched prior to the event by NMA/ISKA South Africa. No entries on the day will be accepted at any event what so ever.
  • No non affiliated club will be allowed to enter competitors to the event. Contact Head Office for registration.

There are several unique regulations within our format which should be carefully studied (see attached document) please note that attachment is not 100% finalised. Any updates will be sent to you before Destiny.

All Instructors wishing to enter full Contact fighters for Destiny must do so by adhering to the following procedure:

  • Registration protocols will be sent to you that must be adhered to.
  • All fighters will have to complete a specialised waiver and must undergo a medical (obtain certificate) no more than 10 days prior to the event.
  • All fighters will have to undergo a second medical at the venue. The event doctor has final say regarding the competitor’s participation.
  • All coaches and competitors must be schooled in the attached protocol document.
  • Anyone fighting as a “professional” may not partake in any amateur full contact event.
  • There is a minimum skill level acceptance in place. No beginners will be allowed. If within 30 seconds of any bout we determine inability to defend, we will stop the match. The same will result of any fighter utilising anything but schooled and quality techniques. Do not put yourself or your student into a situation of embracement. We are not interested in filling fighting bills or trying to raise maximum entries. When it comes to full contact we will rather have 10 quality fights for the entire tournament than have a day full of at best mediocre experiences.

We will have special development non competitive tournaments with limited rounds/bouts where all newbie’s will be able to gain experience and obtain advice in all provinces outside of the Classic Series and Destiny.

If you are a qualified Full contact Referee / Judge (ISKA or WAKO License holder) contact us in order to register as tournament official at Shihan Phil Anderson shihanphil@kickboxing.co.za or 0723850581

Please read through the attached document in order to become acquainted with the regulations thus far.  A full briefing will be held at the venue before the bouts commence. All trainers and coaches must be present.

Durbanville Dojo Move

To All Our Durbanville Students

After more than 15 years spent in our current Durbanville Dojo, we would like to inform all our Students that from 14 January 2015 we will be moving and training in a new venue.

The Durbanville Primary School informed us that they will be changing the learner center into two more class rooms to be ready for their influx of new students attending their school from next year. Therefore they will be utilizing the Main Hall on a much more regular bases and will not be able to make it available for any extra- curricular activities.

We have found a new Venue at the Durbanville AGS Church on the corner of “Van Breda and St John Street” (just up the road). For your convenience, please find a map below of how to get to the new venue from the current Dojo:

As you exit the school premises, turn right until you get to the Stop Street. Turn left onto Church Street which becomes RACECOURSE Road. Follow the road until you get to the first set of Robots (about 2km). Turn Right onto St John Road and then first Right into Van Breda. The Church is situated on the corner and the parking on Van Breda. ( GPS S 33 50.563; E 18 38.135 or S33 50 33; E18 38 08)

The new Dojo has ample parking with lighting outside and a large lawn for Fun training. Please note that this new Dojo will also be welcomed with a new schedule. We will still be training from 19:15 to 20:15, but our classes will be moving from a Tuesday and Thursday to a Monday and a Wednesday from 14 January 2015. We did everything possible to prevent the change of training days but due to this being the only venue that meets our needs, we had to fall in line with the venue availability.

We still have a good relationship with the Durbanville Primary School and completely understand the decision that was made by them was purely of a business nature and we wish them all of the best for the future.

For our students we trust that you will enjoy the new venue with the new schedule and will guarantee only the best tuition for you!

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact Sensei Lutcin on 082 680 4492 or senseilutcin@kickboxing.co.za.
